Lighting Design in Elverparken – An Evaluation on Lighting and the Feeling of Safety

How does the light design at Elverparken contribute to experiences of safety for locals and other park-goers?
How can we develop a methodology with which to study relations between light and experiences of safety? What role can eye-tracking technologies play in this research?

This investigation into the lighting installation at Elverparken concentrates on the theme of safety in public places. It examines topics such as the illumination of parks for recreation and how spatial lighting contributes to experiencing safety and how this may be implemented in future evaluations.

[…] the core of the paper develops on our qualitative findings on the main research question of the evaluation of the light design and the feeling of safety in Elverparken, while the research on eye tracking technology gives insights into, and formulates new methods and an analysis manual for studying, the effect of light on the experience of safety in public spaces. [B]oth the analysis of the general findings on Elverparken and the research and developed method on eye tracking technology contribute to the academic niche of studies on light and feeling of safety while also supplementing themselves to create the advice of the consultancy report.
